Visa VMC Fall 2026 Doubles Its Prize Pool, Paving the Way to M8 World Championship

The leading Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament in Vietnam, the Visa Vietnam MLBB Championship (VMC) Fall 2026, has just announced its total prize pool has doubled to 500 million VND. This is a notable growth signal for the domestic esports ecosystem, especially in a context where many other Southeast Asian regional tournaments are tightening spending. This event is not just about the prize money figure; it also reveals a structural change in the development strategy of the game publisher MOONTON in the region. According to the published information, VMC Fall 2026 will feature 6 teams, including the top 4 teams from VMC Spring 2026 and 2 teams that qualify from the qualifier. The playoffs will take place from October 10 to 11 in a BO5 format, while the grand final will take place on October 17 in a BO7 format. A special highlight of this season lies in the rewards: the champion will receive 250 million VND, a 2.5-fold increase compared to the 100 million VND of the first season in 2026. The runner-up receives 90 million VND, teams ranked 3-4 receive 50 million VND each, and teams ranked 5-6 receive 30 million VND each. However, the greatest value of winning VMC Fall 2026 does not lie in the prize money. The champion will earn the right to participate in the MLBB Championship Tour - Southeast Asia (MCT SEA), a new regional tournament held in Thailand from December 9 to 13. At MCT SEA, the Vietnamese team will have to compete with 11 other top regional teams to earn a spot at the M8 World Championship. The M8 World Championship will have its main stage in Istanbul, Turkey, while the Wild Card stage takes place in Bangkok, Thailand. This change reflects a comprehensive restructuring strategy by MOONTON. If at VMC Winter 2026, the champion earned a direct slot to the M7 Wild Card, then at Fall 2026, the champion must go through MCT SEA, a longer and more demanding path. This is part of the plan to deploy the MLBB Championship Tour across 5 regions starting in 2026. This new structure aims to create a comprehensive cross-national competition system, replacing the previous direct bye slots. Based on my experience following regional MLBB tournaments, the choice of AEON Mall Tan Phu Celadon in Ho Chi Minh City as the venue for the final indicates a clear commercial orientation. This is not a professional sports arena, but a large shopping mall. This shows that the tournament's goal is not only high-level competition but also brand activation for the title sponsor Visa and an opportunity to reach a large number of fans in a public space. "I put my entire reputation into one shot, and I learned that reputation is just a number" - this saying also applies to the teams in VMC Fall 2026. The BO7 final and the six-day gap between the playoffs and the final are a notable tactical variable. BO7 demands a deep hero pool and the ability of the coaching staff to make mid-series tactical adjustments. Six days of rest could be an opportunity to recover physically, but it could also disrupt the teams' competitive rhythm. This period also creates an observation window for the finalists to study their opponents. One memorable historical detail: in the first season in 2026, Legion Esports defeated T Final in a BO7 final to claim the championship with a reward of 100 million VND. This victory, along with T Final's presence in a BO7 final, proves that the BO7 format always delivers tense and dramatic matches. However, specific roster information for VMC Fall 2026 has not yet been announced, suggesting that the transfer and recruitment races for teams may not be over yet. "The press room is not a place to apologize, but a place where I declare war" - for teams, securing a spot at MCT SEA is a real battle. The ticket to the M8 World Championship is now longer and more challenging. Vietnam has only one slot among the 12 teams participating in MCT SEA, showing that the country's position in the regional MLBB ecosystem is being positioned by MOONTON at a developing level, not in the leading group like the Philippines or Indonesia. "Every transfer contract is a card game, and I always see the facedown card" - in the bigger picture, the emergence of MCT SEA is not just a new tournament. It is a commercial lever. The continued partnership of Visa as the title sponsor, along with the doubled prize pool, is a positive signal about the brand reliability of Vietnam's MLBB ecosystem. But professionals understand that a total prize pool of approximately 20,000 USD is still a modest figure compared to international standards. "When the stadium is empty, I see the truth that the crowd hides" - the truth that not everyone sees in this prize increase story is that the road to the World Championship has become more complex. Previously, the VMC champion had a direct slot to the M7 Wild Card. Now, they must compete at MCT SEA, facing the strongest teams in the region, for a chance to earn a spot to Istanbul. This is a price to pay for a more professional development structure. The final taking place on October 17 will be an accurate measure of the strength of Vietnamese teams ahead of MCT SEA. Vietnamese teams need to prepare thoroughly for the BO5 and BO7 formats, as well as need a long-term strategy to adapt to the new cross-national tournament structure. Fan expectations are high, but the numbers show that the gap between us and the regional MLBB powerhouses remains a problem to be solved. "People call me a traitor, but I am only loyal to numbers" - and the numbers for VMC Fall 2026 are telling a real story of growth and challenge. The lesson from the Korean market, where I am following the esports industry, shows that sustainability comes not from a tournament increasing its prize money, but from building a youth development system and long-term financial mechanisms. VMC Fall 2026 is a step forward, but the road ahead for Vietnamese MLBB is still very long.
